The Island of Tobago, like other windward Caribbean islands had its economic fortune pegged to the established agrarian order; an order that saw the exploitation of both human and physical resources under a system of forced labour known as African Enslavement. While this agrarian order saw the introduction of manufacturing systems and processes, it was limited to the production of primary agricultural products which were to be refined in the factories of the metropolis in Europe. Today we take a look at some of the relics of this age. The age of exploitation; the age of stagnation; the age abandonment and abuse.
